Marlon Wayans Confirmed for G.I. Joe

Actor and comedian Marlon Wayans will soon be heading into the future along with the rest of the G.I. Joe production, as the funny-man has been confirmed to play Ripcord in Paramount's upcoming action-figure-to-comic-to-animated big screen adaptation of G.I. Joe. That's right, Marlon Wayans of the Wayans brothers fame. If you're looking for an indication of the film's tone, this is it. Still, somehow the addition of Wayans seems fitting if you remember the tone of the animated series.
According to Variety, the Stephen Sommers directed "... War-themed story is set 10 years in the future. Stuart Beattie penned the screenplay, while Paul Lovett & David Elliot and Skip Woods contributed earlier drafts."
The report also goes on to reveal that actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt is currently in talks to possibly join the production, but there's been no official word as to how close Levitt is to officially joining the production. G.I. Joe is slated to hit theaters on August 7, 2009.
