Iliza Shlesinger is the Last Comic Standing
By Troy Rogers
Does that make her the sixth-to-last comic standing? Last week, Iliza Shlesinger won the sixth season of "Last Comic Standing", joining Dat Phan, John Heffron, Alonzo Bodden, Josh Blue, and Jon Reep in an elite group of comedians. Check that list again - Iliza Shlesinger became the first FEMALE last comic standing. That's an incredible feat and something that should really help launch Shlesinger to the next level. Stand-up comedy is a hard game for women to break into and Shlesinger's win on the NBC reality show will definitely sell a few tickets to her upcoming shows. We recently got Shlesinger on the phone and she let loose about the Playboy mansion, which judge made her nervous, her favorite immunity challenge, and the details of her NBC talent deal...sorta.
THE DEADBOLT: What did you think of the Playboy mansion?
ILIZA SHLESINGER: I don’t know how to answer that without giving away any of the Playboy mansion secrets. Obviously it’s an amazing, I don’t know if historical is the right word, Hollywood historical building and the same with all of the people who’ve been there and had sex there. It was cool and I thought it was funny that we went. People were like, ‘Oh my God you’re a girl and that’s so masochistic. And I was like, ‘You know what? It’s a challenge, it’s not like they’re making me into a wet t-shirt contest.’ And I just think I came off looking like a crazy stalker, because I actually watch The Girls Next Door, I knew everything about them and they didn’t end up taking me and I was like, ‘Oh now I just feel creepy and weird, knowing everything about your life.’
THE DEADBOLT: Which guest or judge made you the most excited or nervous?
SHLESINGER: No one really. I would say no one because it was never about the judges, but against judges it was me and the audience.
THE DEADBOLT: Do you think we’ll ever get another George Carlin?
SHLESINGER: Sure. I mean every generation has I suppose has great comedians and you know they can’t be as original as him because he already did his material. But I don’t know, that’s a weird question buddy. [laughs] Great people come along every once and awhile, you just gotta make sure you find them.
THE DEADBOLT: Did you have a favorite immunity challenge? Bed, Bath, and Beyond was pretty good.
SHLESINGER: Yeah I think the bed bath and beyond one was fun because I like making stuff, I was always into arts and crafts. I know it’s such a lame answer, but that was because I really got to exercise my mind and The Girls Next Door one was fun because I got to see the Playboy mansion and meet the Girls Next Door.
THE DEADBOLT: When will you find out the details of your NBC talent deal, do you know anything about that yet?
SHLESINGER: I probably couldn’t comment on that. I think I might know and I don’t know if I’m allowed to say anything and I also don’t want to say the wrong thing, so I’ll just leave that one alone [laughs].
