Optimus Prime Augmented Reality for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen
by Troy Rogers

Fans of interactive promotion recently saw augmented reality incorporated into the release of Gamer. Now Paramount Home Entertainment is jumping into the augmented reality ring for the DVD and Blu-ray release of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.

For those not in the interactive marketing know, augmented reality gives traditional 2D viewers a 3D perspective when viewing computer imagery through a webcam. With Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, fans will experience augmented reality through the DVD and Blu-ray packaging itself when they unlock "The Optimus Prime Experience," a holographic adventure ride filled with games, puzzles, and Transformers info.

To get a better understanding of augmented reality and what it brings to the Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen home entertainment experience, check out the Transformers demonstration video of augmented reality.

Transformers Revenge of the Fallen will be the first DVD and Blu-ray EVER to use augmented reality to activate a compelling new form of entertainment using the packaging and a webcam.

Fans who point the front of the 2-disc DVD or Blu-ray package at a webcam will activate a 3D holographic experience that includes puzzle solving, discovery, and game-play. As part of this experience, fans will be able to examine the Matrix of Leadership help Optimus Prime shoot Decepticon targets, and more-all in holographic 3D.

Augmented reality works through a webcam that will first recognize familiar 2-dimensional images. Once it has identified a 'marker', it uses this as a basis upon which to project 3-dimensional objects, animations and interactive content.

In the case of the Transformers DVD and Blu-ray, the marker is the packaging. As such, the packaging itself becomes a gateway to a whole new level of Transformers entertainment.

Thanks. Funny that site was not active a couple days ago. All that was there was a video, now the application is up and running. Guess the site was not ready the same day the 2-disc special edition was released. Again thanks for your help.

Ok, so this experience..How can it work on a MAC? I assume that you need a blu ray player and of course MACs do not come with blu ray players. Funny, the package instructions list the minimum requirements to be for a MAC: HW: Intel Dual Core 2.4 HGz Processor, 1 GB RAM, Nvidia or ATI Card, and Software: OS 10.4 and Firefox...Wow no mention that you need a Blu Ray Player, so how can this work on a MAC. Wonder if this is considered false marketing or jsut a huge mistake?

it has nothing to do with the actual dvd/blu ray disc. its the cover sleeve from the 2-disc special edition and a web cam. you have to go the the transformersmovie.com and it will tell you what to do
