Party Talk with 'Digital Rock Star' Space Cowboy
by Troy Rogers

Space Cowboy has had a whirlwind party of a year as DJ for Lady Gaga, also working with Lady Gaga on "Starstruck" and the Gaga holiday classic "Christmas Tree". Now Space Cowboy is set to debut his first major release, "Digital Rock Star," which goes wide to Space Cowboy fans on October 27. With "Digital Rock Star" dropping just in time to party for Halloween, Space Cowboy is taking to the road with LMFAO on their Party Rock Tour along with the Paradiso Girls and the Far East Movement.

With Space Cowboy teaming up with Cinema Bizarre for the latest track "I Came 2 Party", we caught up with Space Cowboy to talk parties on the road, Digital Rock Star, working with Lady Gaga, the most important weapon in his DJ arsenal, and what's next for Space Cowboy in the way of videos before he heads out on tour with LMFAO.

THE DEADBOLT: What can fans expect from you on the Party Rock Tour?

SPACE COWBOY: Well, I think that all of the artists on the tour sing and write and perform about partying and having a good time and jumping up and down, drinking, because that's what we like to do, and seeing people having fun. I think every artist on the tour, their songs reflect that. So it's a Party Rock Tour. LMFAO came to party and all of the artists on that bill are going to be having a blast, so I'm really excited to be invited to join that.

THE DEADBOLT: What's the biggest difference about working solo or with other artists like Lady Gaga or Cinema Bizarre?

SPACE COWBOY: Well, when you perform with someone else, you obviously put in a little effort because you're just part of the piece as opposed to when you're solo where you are obviously able to stretch yourself fully. So, with that, I see a big difference. When I perform by myself and just rock the album, I reach into myself fully and perform my song. They're just different. I wouldn't say one's better than the other, they're just different. If I'm performing with Cinema Bizarre on TV shows in Germany - and for them to invite me to perform with was welcome - really, when I perform my dances, it's a pretty amazing experience to see the crowd. But the Gaga tour was very pop and Cinema Bizarre, they're mostly rock.

THE DEADBOLT: Where did the idea come from for the "I Came 2 Party" video?

SPACE COWBOY: [laughs] We shot that in Berlin, and Berlin is a pretty extraordinary place. You have these amazing places and the video was shot outside of Berlin. I flew in and it was amazing. There were lots of hot girls and half naked girls wearing masks. So yeah, it was a slightly bizarre video.

THE DEADBOLT: Will you being doing anything with Shwayze on the tour?

SPACE COWBOY: Well, who knows? I mean, it's a pretty exciting tour and there are lots of exciting artists like Shwayze. So it's going to be a little of a courting. It's not a competition, that's not it. But as far as the partying and drinking, I won't be surprised if there is collaboration as well.

THE DEADBOLT: What's it like to work and tour with Lady Gaga?

SPACE COWBOY: It's pretty extraordinary. She's an amazing writer. She's one of the most gifted I've ever met. So it's pretty extraordinary to be writing with her, working with her, and to work on Starstruck and to be involved. You know, we put the shows together, transition, and we played together. I learned so much and she's just an amazing writer. So what a trip! It shaped my album largely because of the experiences I had on that tour. I had extraordinary experiences on the road and I was able to write about those and people will hear that and enjoy that.

THE DEADBOLT: What's the most important piece of equipment in your arsenal?

SPACE COWBOY: My laptop. I used that at the start of the Lady Gaga tour so if I had to change music about two minutes before we go onstage instead of adjusting levels on a table in some obscure nightclub in the middle of nowhere. Trying to put together a show before we get on stage to an enormous stadium where we put together a package for a huge stadium sized tour, I think it's cool, man.

THE DEADBOLT: Is there anything fans would be surprised to learn about you?

SPACE COWBOY: What would fans be surprised to know? I don't have that much to surprise them, I suppose. But maybe when they hear the lyrics they might be surprised at the experiences I've had. The lyrics largely reflect what happened over the past year. So yeah, they may be surprised by the songs on the album. These songs are very honest songs. I think they'll like the album. I hope so.

THE DEADBOLT: What's the next video we can expect to see?

SPACE COWBOY: It depends. I'm not too sure. There's an extraordinary song on there I'm very proud of called "Party Like Animals," which features Kee and Vistoso Bosses who are really cool people. When you play that one, it's sort of like a crazy jungle beat and you can party like animals. I'm really really proud of that. Then we've got a new version of "I Came 2 Party" as well, featuring Paradiso Girls, Far East Movement, Cherry Boom Boom. So there are a few songs there. Maybe we'll do a bunch for a few of the songs. I'd like that. That would be cool.
