Whitney Houston has filed for divorce from Bobby Brown after 14 years of marriage. Their often turbulent relationship is reportedly coming to an end as Access Hollywood confirmed the news with Whitney Houston’s publicist on Wednesday.

After they tied the knot 14 years ago, the road to love hasn’t been smooth for Whitney and Bobby, but as of today it looks as though Houston is finally ready to make a change and officially split from Brown. According to Access Hollywood Whitney Houston is legally separated from Bobby Brown and will be filing for divorce in October. Whitney’s representative, Nancy Seltzer told the outlet that Houston had filed separation papers last Friday and Brown was served with the documents yesterday, September 12.

Rumors have been swirling for several years about the possible disintegration of Whitney and Bobby’s marriage, but they always seemed to tough it out and keep their relationship intact. What was it that finally triggered Whitney to take the final step? One answer could be that Houston has had enough of the bad press concerning her health, the attention of her name associated with Osama Bin Laden and Bobby’s run-ins with the law. Another reason could be that she wants to get her career singing back on track. Access Hollywood reports that Whitney Houston made an appearance last night at The Society of Singers Presents the 15th Annual Ella Award with her mentor Clive Davis and aunt, Dion Warwick for the event that honored Jophnny Mathis. While her attendance didn’t reveals hints of a comeback, it did reinforce the news that Clive Davis told MTV about the return album he and Houston have been working on. Last week, Davis revealed that he and Houston already have six tracks for the release and a tidbit on what fans can expect, “Whitney is Whitney, and there ain't nobody like her. It'll be Whitney. It won't be somebody reaching for a current trend, that's for sure.”

Whitney Houston began her singing career as a soloist in the junior gospel choir of the New Hope Baptist Church in Newark, New Jersey. She cut her first record deal with Arista in 1983 and her first album was released two years later on February 14th, 1985. Songs such as"You Give Good Love" and "Greatest Love of All" gave the album the strength to sell 24 million copies worldwide, while her follow-up album, Whitney, launched on June 29th, 1987 spawned such top charting hits as "I Want to Dance With Somebody", "Didn't We Almost Have it All," and "Where Do Broken Hearts Go?". In 1990, her next album I'm Your Baby Tonight, underperformed as compared to her top sellers with only 12 million copies sold worldwide.

Whitney Houston would then go on to co-star in the movie The Bodyguard with Kevin Costner and while the commercial success of the movie couldn’t compare to the soundtrack, the music for the film spawned such unforgettable Whitney. Songs as "I'm Every Woman" and "I Have Nothing.” However, based on the hugely popular track "I Will Always Love You," the album would sell an unprecedented 37 million copies worldwide. Houston would do two more soundtracks, for the movies Waiting to Exhale and The Preacher's Wife, combining for 17 million albums sold worldwide. My Love Is Your Love would manufacture $13 million more in album sales, but despite the fact that Whitney kept busy in recent years, her subsequent albums didn’t enjoy the same level of success as her earlier outings. Good luck and all the best to Whitney!
